Abstract Reasoning Tests - Competency Screening Test For Hiring

Identify and Develop High Potential with Mettl Test for Abstract Reasoning

Abstract reasoning is defined as an ability to think laterally, examine problems in unique and unusual ways and make logical connections between different concepts. Candidates with strong abstract reasoning ability are likely to be creative while solving novel problems. They are likely to learn new skills quickly and can process ambiguous information efficiently.

The Mettl Test for Abstract Reasoning (MTAR) is a nonverbal test that measures the abstract reasoning ability of the test takers working in a variety of individual contributor or managerial roles. This test is suitable to be used in both recruitment and development settings. Recruiters can make use of this test for a global audience across the industries for various job roles, more preferably for entry-level or experienced level positions.

Test takers are presented with a three by three (9 cells) matrix that consists of eight cells containing geometric shapes, and one empty/blank cell/cell with a question mark. Test takers are asked to find the logical rule(s) that govern how the sequence progresses horizontally or vertically and identify from these the shape that should fill the blank space.

The MTAR has been developed in line with the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures (EEOC,1978), the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology's Principles for the Validation and Use of Personnel Selection Procedures (SIOP, 2003), EFPA Test Review Model and the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing developed jointly by the American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association, and National Council on Measurement in Education (1999).

Use this test for:

  • Recruitment: Identify the right hires for your organization by using this test.
  • Learning and Development: Understand the current proficiency level of an employee; train and develop employees effectively.
  • Identification of High Potential: Have a healthy pipeline of future leaders.
  • Succession Planning: Fast-track high potential to retain them.
