"Logical reasoning is defined as the ability of a candidate to analyze the given information from different perspectives by breaking it down into simple components and by structuring the information in a logical order to arrive at a solution. Employers place a premium on employees who demonstrate exceptional logical thinking skills because their decision making is not based on emotions but factual data. Organizations, quite evidently, seek candidates with excellent logical thinking skills because they can make unbiased decisions and ensure objectivity in a decision-making process. Mercer| Mettl's logical reasoning test is specially designed to assess a test taker’s ability to think logically, analyze the problem and derive logical conclusions.

Mercer| Mettl's logical reasoning assessment measures the test takers' ability across various critical roles at all job levels, individual contributors to mid and senior management roles across industries. This test can be used in assessing employees’ potential irrespective of their educational background and job experience. In addition, this logical thinking test can be used in talent acquisition and learning and development initiatives across roles, job levels and industries. Designed by subject matter experts, this pre-employment test can assess candidates on their ability to examine a piece of information rationally and draw logical conclusions. It also evaluates the ability to filter out futile information and identify the relevant set of information points.

This logical reasoning test consists of questions across various skills such as puzzles, arrangements, deductions, and much more besides. The test comprises a piece of text outlining the premise of the question, followed by three or four answer options. An individual must identify which answer option is correct out of the given answer options. This test includes 20 questions to be completed in 30 minutes. Moreover, the candidate's skills are assessed on three levels: easy, medium and difficult. 

The test is developed as per the guidelines prescribed by Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing developed jointly by the American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association, and National Council on Measurement in Education (1999), EFPA test review model, Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures (EEOC, 1978), the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology's Principles for the Validation and Use of Personnel Selection Procedures (SIOP, 2003).

Logical Reasoning is used to assess candidates' ability to use a steady and rational approach to arrive at a conclusion. A high score on the MTLR indicates that candidate/test taker can use clear and logical steps to understand a given piece of information and is able to infer what could be true or must be true from the given facts and rules.
