Fluid Intelligence

Fluid intelligence refers to perceiving, absorbing and retaining information to tackle challenges in different circumstances. The core competencies used to measure fluid intelligence are abstract reasoning, spatial reasoning and visual reasoning. Fluid intelligence includes abilities that help an individual analyze and find a solution through critical thinking ability. A fluid intelligence test is supposed to be answered in spontaneity, without using any acquired knowledge.

Fluid intelligence is the ability to solve unfamiliar problems by using critical thinking and logical reasoning. This ability is not dependent on prior learning, life experiences or education. For example, proper use of fluid intelligence is exemplified by early humans who used instincts, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills to survive. They did not have any education or access to any form of knowledge that could help them meet their daily needs of food, shelter and protection from predators.
