An assessment center is a human resource management tool to holistically assess an individual’s competencies for role and organizational fitment and gauge developmental needs. Using various exercises, organizations witness individuals in the simulation of the role for which they are considered. The process of assessment center helps organizations better predict candidates’ performance and potential for the positions in consideration.

Assessment centers require candidates to participate in multiple tests and activities to gauge fitment and suitability for open positions. Assessment centers can be used for efficient recruitment and methodical workforce planning. Assessment centers can be physical, virtual, or blended, based on the nature of exercises and roles in consideration, besides the allocated time and budget. Some examples of activities in an assessment center include role-plays, situational judgment tests, inbox prioritization, psychometric tests, case studies, etc.
