The OCEAN model of personality views human personality as a combination of 5 personality traits or 5 personality factors: Openness, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Extraversion and Neuroticism (making the acronym – OCEAN). Also known as the five factor or big five model, OCEAN model of personality is considered one of the most reliable taxonomy of personality traits, especially in the workplace environment.
No one personality model can be fully exhaustive, but the OCEAN five factor model of personality comprise of a blanket of personality-related factors which are highly relevant in assessing and predicting workplace personality and behavior. The five factors can contain subgroups of related personality characteristics.
Personality assessments, as the name implies, gauge an individual’s positive and dark personality traits. Personality assessments are modeled after two broad schools of thought – trait theory and type theory.
