A 360 performance appraisal is the process of evaluating an employee’s performance through a holistic method. In a 360 performance appraisal method, an employee’s manager, peers, subordinates, the employee themselves, and everyone who has a close working relationship with the employee, rate her/him on various competencies and KRAs. The results are then weighed and combined to give the employee a fair idea of how their work is viewed, and their apparent and hidden strengths and areas of improvement.

A 360 performance appraisal is an objective approach to appraisals as it requires not just an employee’s managers but also her/his peers and subordinates to rate the employee. All the ratings are averaged out to give a holistic perspective about the employee’s strengths and weaknesses, making it easier for organizations to understand who to give appraisals to.
