Online Numerical Reasoning ability test for Hiring

Mettl Test for Numerical Reasoning has been designed to assess a candidate’s/ test taker’s ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, analyze graphs and tabular data, carry out business estimates, analyze/assess business scenario in a given time frame, and solve problems with utmost concentration.

The MTNR measures the ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and analyze graphical and tabular data. It also assesses candidates' ability to carry out business estimates with the help of interpreting and analyzing numerical data. It also evaluates the ability to work with information in number based format to make important business decisions and analysing its impact on how good a decision is commercially.

The MTNR consists of a piece of text/table/graphs outlining the premise of the question, followed by either two or four answer options. An individual must identify which answer option is correct out of the given answer options.

The test is developed as per the guidelines prescribed by Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing developed jointly by the American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association, and National Council on Measurement in Education (1999), EFPA test review model, Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures (EEOC, 1978), the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology's Principles for the Validation and Use of Personnel Selection Procedures (SIOP, 2003).

Use this test for:

  • Recruitment: Identify the right hires for your organization by using this test.
  • Learning and Development: Understand the current proficiency level of employee; train and develop employees effectively.

Rigour of the Tool:

Reliability (Cronbach alpha)

0.824 to 0.843

Construct Validity

As per the Confirmatory Factor Analysis model, the fit indices were as per the norms (IFI = 0.799 to 0.908; RMSEA = 0.04 to 0.064; CFI = 0.793 to 0.905 and TLI = 0.744 to 0.882).

Criterion Validity

The MTNR score was shown to be positively correlated with Analytical Ability (r = 0.446, p <.01), Critical Thinking (r = 0.376, p <.05) Fluid Intelligence (r = 0.371, p <.05) and High Potential (r = 0.435, p <.01).

Norming and Standardization

Normed on a sample of 2000+ respondents across the globe.

Adverse Impact

The MTNR is free from age, gender, ethnicity and language bias and appropriate for use as a global and culture agnostic tool.

Answer to common queries:

What is the use of Numerical Reasoning?

Numerical Reasoning is used to assess candidates' ability to perceive and process numbers and related symbols to perform basic arithmetic operations and perform estimates. A high score on the MTNR indicates that the test taker possesses higher ability to solve basic arithmetic operations and perform estimates. A high score also indicates required level of speed in making analysis or assessments based on given information and a good level of concentration in solving problems.

Can we customize the report to include some specific analyses?

We have done so in the past on a client-to-client basis. Please write to us for such a request and we would be glad to work out a solution for you.

How it works:

step 1

Add this test to your tests

step 2

Share test link from your tests

step 3

Candidate take the tests

step 4

You get their tests report

Note You will be charged only at step 3. i.e. only when candidate start the test.
