Verbal Reasoning Tests - Competency Screening Test For Hiring

Mettl Test for Verbal Reasoning has been designed to assess a candidate’s/ test taker’s ability to comprehend, think logically, and derive logical conclusions based on verbal content in the English language. The MTVR has been majorly used in hiring freshers and experienced candidates, from across educational backgrounds, for various executive-level functional roles, team lead and managerial profiles.

The MTVR measures the ability to comprehend and rationally examine the given piece of verbal information. It also assesses the ability to recognize the difference between fact, argument and inference. It also evaluates the ability to read and interpret written information and answer questions accurately.

The MTVR consists of either statements or passages outlining the premise of the question, followed by four answer options. An individual must identify which answer option is correct out of the given answer options. In the first set of items, test takers are asked to identify the logical order of the four or five sentences given, followed by four answer options. In the second set of items, respondents are asked to read the passage and select the correct answer out of four response options of the questions asked at the end of the paragraph.

The test is developed as per the guidelines prescribed by Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing developed jointly by the American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association, and National Council on Measurement in Education (1999), EFPA test review model, Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures (EEOC, 1978), the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology's Principles for the Validation and Use of Personnel Selection Procedures (SIOP, 2003).

The MTVR score was shown to be positively correlated with Critical Thinking (r = 0.374, p <.05) and Fluid Intelligence (r = 0.286, p <.05).
